Freescale has never revealed the financial details, even when it first announced the deal to buy Intoto (News - Alert) on Sept. 16.
The chipmaker hopes Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intoto’s technology and expertise will bolster its new QorIQ platform.
Freescale plans to leverage Intoto’s technology and staff to accelerate software capacity around its QorIQ brand of multi-core communications processors.
Intoto makes software primarily for networking and communications equipment manufacturers. Also, with this transaction, Freescale announced the appointment of former Intoto CEO Sathyan Iyengar as a vice president within the company’s Networking Systems Division.
Intoto is mostly made up of Indian Americans and almost all of them are now likely to follow CEO Iyengar into Freescale. According to a report from Bizjournal, the employees in India will remain at the facility while the Santa Clara group will move to Freescale offices in U.S.
Freescale designs and manufactures embedded semiconductors for the automotive, consumer, industrial, networking and wireless markets and has offices in 30 countries around the world with recorded sales worth $5.7 billion in 2007.
“This transaction underscores our deep commitment to help customers move to embedded multi-core with confidence,” said Dr. Lisa Su, senior vice president and general manager of Freescale’s Networking & Multimedia Group.
“Intoto’s modular software architecture, broad application-based platforms and engineering talent will enhance our existing single core and multi-core enablement capabilities and give our customers comprehensive system solutions to take full advantage of all that our QorIQ platforms have to offer.”
