Agilent Technologies Intros Handheld Digital Multimeter with OLED Display

Agilent Technologies (News - Alert) has unveiled its new U1253A handheld digital multimeter (DMM), which it claims is the first such product to use an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display. The OLED readout is suited for on-the-go and benchtop applications and offers features such as a 2000:1 contrast ratio, a 160-degree viewing angle, smoothed fonts and a "large display" mode to ensure crystal-clear indoor viewing.

Helping to simplify analysis, accelerate glitch detection and simplify probing of hard-to-reach points, all three U1250 Series DMMs provide useful benefits. With 50,000-count full-scale dual display and basic accuracy of up to 0.025 percent, the key specifications are 4.5-digit resolution. Apart from providing basic DMM functions, the models also offer features such as temperature measurements, automated data-logging (with the optional PC-interface cable) and, in the U1252A, a 20-MHz frequency counter and a programmable square-wave generator.

The U1253A expands Agilent's U1250 Series of handheld DMMs. These high-performance instruments facilitate engineers and technicians to complete their day-to-day tasks without being confined to the bench as they are designed to simplify electronic troubleshooting and validation. Without the burden of extra cost, U1251A and U1252A include a wide variety of essential accessories: alligator clips; fine-tip test probes; SMT and mini grabbers; and a soft carrying case.

Enabling users to check more with wide measurement ranges, true RMS readings and a 10,000-count display, Agilent's line of handheld DMMs also includes the U1240 Series. Apart from providing a built-in switch counter, the U1240 DMMs also simplify maintenance tasks with harmonic-ratio, dual-temperature and differential-temperature capabilities. The Agilent U1253A is priced at $449 and is available now worldwide.

“Adding an OLED display to a high-performance handheld DMM represents a new level of 'visionary' innovation in our growing line of low-cost solutions,” said Ee Huei Sin, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Basic Instruments Division. “It also reaffirms our commitment to go beyond essential product features to include extra capabilities that help our customers do more in a wider range of situations.”
