NEC Unveils Enhanced Point of Sale Systems

NEC (News - Alert) Corporation of America, a provider of IT, network and retail solutions, has announced two complete point-of-sale (POS) transaction management systems, TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500. The company says the system is suitable for retailers ranging from small to large that want to lower costs and simplify the checkout experience for customers.
 
Suited for retail environments, such as grocery and convenience stores, as well as quick-service environments, NEC's TwinPOS 5500 operates on either Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows Embedded for the Point of Service (WEPOS) or Linux. Customers can also add a magnetic card reader and customer display unit to the NEC TwinPOS 5500 for improved functionality. Also, to additionally support back office functions, the NEC TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 feature enough power and memory.
 
Ideally suited for retail environments, such as grocery and convenience stores, as well as quick-service restaurants, NEC's TwinPOS 3500 is designed and built to deliver high durability and reliability in a rugged POS terminal. TwinPOS 3500 provides renowned NEC reliability and dependability in a more compact solution by offering Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Intel (News - Alert) Celeron M processor at 600 MHz and Microsoft's WEPOS operating system. To minimize hardware failure, TwinPOS 3500 features a 2.5 GB flash storage with zero spindle architecture.
 
Offering the flexibility and reliability demanded by the retail industry, the TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 are the next generation of NEC POS systems. NEC's new base POS units were designed leveraging NEC's 40 years of experience in providing innovative solutions for some of the world's largest retailers. It also provides the high quality required for mission-critical applications running 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.
 
Additional features of both the NEC Twin5500 and Twin3500 include easy to configure and integrate with new or existing systems; rugged design against temperature, water spills and dust-ideal for the retail environment; compact footprint design, delivering flexibility to fit different types of counter layout and saving valuable counter space; plug-n-play support for retail device peripherals and industry standards such as Unified Point of Service (UPOS); designed for multi-purpose applications; and support for a broad range of retail applications and device peripherals.
