Hughes Unveils Helius Business IPTV Solutions in Europe

The European operating unit of Hughes Network Systems (News - Alert), LLC, specializing in broadband satellite networks and services, has launched an expanded portfolio of HughesNet enterprise offerings based on the company's recently-acquired Helius Business IPTV (News - Alert) solutions.

During January 2008, Hughes had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Helius, Inc., a portfolio company of Canopy Ventures. Helius is a provider of business IPTV (Internet Protocol Tele Vision) solutions for applications such as training, corporate communications, and digital signage. Helius is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Hughes and works with Hughes’ North America and International enterprise businesses.

The acquisition has helped to bring out end-to-end solution combining both the wide broadband networking experience and customer base of Hughes together with the Business IPTV solutions of Helius.

HughesNet enterprise services and solutions combine all broadband solutions and managed services from Hughes, connecting the best of satellite and terrestrial technologies. The expanded portfolio includes comprehensive digital signage and on-line training applications.

"eLearning and Digital Signage are two of the fastest growing areas within our HughesNet solutions portfolio," said Mike Darcy, president of Hughes Europe.

"We are excited to add the Helius solutions to our line-up, offering our customers the choice of a proven, high performance platform for both Internet and broadcast-based eLearning and digital signage." added Darcy.

The Helius Business IPTV solutions features Helius MediaAuthor, a simple, yet powerful application designed to support small-scale, digital signage installations in retail outlets;  Helius Portal and Presenter, a fully-featured, cost-effective eLearning platform enabling management to provide on-line training, monitor compliance, and automatically issue certifications for internal and external users; Helius MediaGate Router and the MediaGate Software Suite.

Mike Tippets, president of Helius claims that these products are designed for rapid deployment and can be simply and quickly added to existing HughesNet solutions.

"Customers such as General Motors, Safeway, JCPenney, Raytheon (News - Alert), General Dynamics, and others have benefited from the power and flexibility of Helius applications -- and we are implementing pilot installations of these products and services with customers of Hughes today," added Tippets.

INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO West 2008 — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year — concluded September 18 in Los Angeles, California. Thousands of attendees flocked to the event for three valuable days of exhibits, conferences and networking opportunities. Mark your calendar now for ITEXPO East 2009, February 2-4, 2009, in sunny Miami, Florida.
