Iona College Eases into School Year w/ Alcatel-Lucent

Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y, has selected InfoExpress CyberGatekeeper to protect the college wireless network, provided by Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert). The school will look to protect its network from anything such as badly configured computers or rogue systems. The support for this is being provided by InfoExpress, Alcatel-Lucent's partner, who sold the CyberGatekeeper solution to Iona College.

 

Without any significant downtime or end-user disruption, InfoExpress CyberGatekeeper can be deployed very quickly. CyberGatekeeper’s patch-level verification, custom file verification for shared drive access, and LAN enforcement expansion will benefit the Iona College in its mission of protecting its network.

 

The staff at Iona College stated that CyberGatekeeper made the first day of school a pleasure. As the CyberGatekeeper simplified access and allowed the students to do the majority of the install and registration for network access themselves, the school was able to reduce nearly four hours out of its typical first day. While in the past, the school needed to oversee each system install and with more technical support, this time, the number of staff was reduced.

 

By auditing all devices before granting access to the network, the InfoExpress CyberGatekeeper family of products control access to the network. Apart from its interoperability with a wide range of products, the product is also fully scalable. Providing companies with the option to remediate endpoints “on the fly” without having to restrict access to users, the CyberGatekeeper appliance can be easily deployed in monitor mode. For organizations like colleges where a lot of endpoints hit the network for the first time on the first day, this option is particularly important.

 

“We always had a policy in place for students to install our updates for secure access to our network, but we didn’t have a technical catch-all that could make sure that policy is enforced,” said Dimitris Halaris, associate vice provost of information technology at Iona College. “More than that, CyberGatekeeper provides a one-stop host integrity check that will allow access to the college wireless network only when the student’s computer meets a set of security policies that we establish and manage centrally and upload to the CyberGatekeeper appliance.”
