Autonomy to Enhance Information Access for Swedish Railways

Autonomy (News - Alert) Corporation has said that their Pan Enterprise technology has been selected by SJ, the Swedish Railways Organization, to improve information access.

The Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) provided by Autonomy will index over 1.5 million documents, providing SJ employees instant access to relevant information, improved collaboration across geographic locations for boosting efficiency, helping to avoid duplication of effort and in the process, improving customer service.

"IDOL's unique meaning-based technology has enabled us to harness the true value of SJ's information assets rather than fall prey to information overload," commented Stefan Carlsson, IT manager at SJ. "The result is enhanced productivity, improved collaboration, and a first-class user experience for our extensive customer base. Furthermore, owing to the power of IDOL and the expertise of the Autonomy Professional Services team, this project was completed well ahead of schedule.”

SJ felt that the expertise Autonomy could derive from meaning-based computing into the IDOL could ease the handling of over a million documents with the help of a simple and single system in place. Unlike legacy approaches, IDOL' pattern-matching technology can identify hidden connections between disparate pieces of data and provide experts with pertinent content in real-time.

With this service taking over, SJ’s staff can now handle operations that provide higher values to the customer rather than employing themselves in dull tasks such as data searching.

The company said that the special features of IDOL are conceptual search, automatic clustering and hyperlinking.

Conceptual Search can bring in similar documents which are kept organized according to similar themes. This allows users to have an easy approach of skipping a few keywords for searching the files they need. Traditional approaches depend heavily on grammatical structure or specific vocabulary.

Automatic Clustering enables SJ system and staff to find hot trends and topics and to adopt a proactive approach to customer queries.

IDOL's unique Automatic Hyperlinking feature suggests pertinent documents that are contextually linked to the original text thus ensuring that professionals enjoy full visibility over relevant corporate content.

"The proliferation of human-friendly, unstructured information is prompting a growing number of organizations to embrace meaning-based technologies as the only solution capable of forming a conceptual understanding from data," explained Dr. Mike Lynch, CEO of Autonomy. "We are delighted that IDOL has been selected to underpin SJ's information strategy."
