AirMagnet and Intel Demo New Technology, Simplify Wireless RF Troubleshooting

AirMagnet (News - Alert), a provider of security, performance and compliance solutions for wireless LANs, is demonstrating a new technology that will offer professional Wi-Fi spectrum analysis. This technology is devised with the help of Intel (News - Alert) Centrino 2 processor technology and forthcoming software from AirMagnet.

Now, companies can use the computer's standard internal wireless adapter to analyze the quality of the RF airwaves with this combination of AirMagnet software and the Intel Centrino 2 processor technology with Intel Wi-Fi Link Adapter (5100/5300). They can also watch RF interference and problems in the Wi-Fi spectrum. Prior to this, companies relied on proprietary, single-use, external cards to identify RF interferences.

For any company that has a high performance Wi-Fi network, spectrum analysis is critical and can be negatively impacted by noise and RF interference in the environment. With the help of spectrum analyzers, anyone can quickly pinpoint RF problems that can hurt a network’s performance and easily see the energy that is in the Wi-Fi airwaves.

AirMagnet is looking to expand the available market of its forthcoming software technology to the millions of Intel Centrino 2 processor technology-based platforms that are now shipping. The company plans to do this by leveraging the Intel Centrino 2 processor technology. In addition, the company feels that this new technology will allow users to have a view of the RF environment, which is a game-changing approach in the wireless LAN market with this new approach to RF analysis.

“Intel Centrino 2 processor technology offers breakthrough wireless performance, security and management for today's mobile workforce. AirMagnet extends our wireless capabilities even further with their spectrum technology,” said Randy Nickel, director of Wireless Marketing, Mobile Platforms Group, Intel Corporation.

“Visibility of the Wi-Fi spectrum and clear issue diagnosis is fundamental to designing and running a WLAN properly. We're excited to work with AirMagnet in this joint effort,” added Nickel.
