TechSelect to Provide Sales, Technical and Business-Skills Training

Tech Data (News - Alert) Corporation is hosting its fifth TechSelect University this month and is expected to focus instruction on helping members capitalize on the rising demand for server virtualization solutions by offering free VMware VCP and VSP training.

The Clearwater, Fla.-based company’s members attending the VMware training will have access to a technology lab for hands-on instruction and utilization of the vendor’s virtualization solutions.  Tech Data’s mobile virtualization labs also will be available for server and desktop virtualization demonstrations.

Meanwhile, marketing courses will advise resellers on how to create strategic marketing plans for their businesses and how to leverage Web 2.0 and social media tools to build awareness for their solutions and services, according to Tech Data Senior Vice President, U.S. Sales Murray Wright.

“TechSelect University was the first event of its kind, and we remain committed to ensuring the conference always delivers new and valuable education opportunities for the TechSelect community,” said Wright. “This year, TechSelect is helping members capitalize on the rising demand for server virtualization solutions by offering free VMware VCP and VSP training.

The event is being held in Houston from Aug. 18–22. TechSelect University is the annual partner enablement and education conference for TechSelect, Tech Data’s premier community of small and medium business (SMB) resellers.

“We’ve also expanded our business-skills development curriculum to include sessions on marketing strategies presented by the American Marketing Association,” said Wright.

Since 2004, TechSelect University has provided hundreds of SMB resellers with free instruction valued at more than $850,000. Next week, more than 130 TechSelect members are scheduled to attend the conference’s sales, technical, marketing and management trainings.

“TechSelect University has become one of our primary vehicles for obtaining a wide range of training, especially non-technical, business-skills development courses we otherwise wouldn’t have access to,” said aCoupleofGurus.com President Keith Schoolcraft. “Being able to attend free trainings that help us strengthen our business through marketing, project management and sales leadership is tremendously valuable to us. TechSelect University is a real differentiator for the TechSelect community.”

TechSelect University courses are based on member input and guidance from the TechSelect Advisory Council. The conference features condensed, vendor-authorized instruction, enabling members and their employees to maximize their time out of office and participate in all the training required to obtain necessary certifications.
