SmartVM Intros New USB Extender Products

SmartVM is now offering a line of USB extender products designed to expand connectivity for devices such as USB cameras, printers, and scanners. The USB Extender over Cat5 exceeds the common 15 feet USB extension limitation, allowing users to extend between 1 and 4 USB peripheral devices up to 330 feet using Cat5 / Cat5e / Cat6 UTP cable.

The USB standard requires a maximum range of 5 meters (16.4 feet), which can be stretched to more than 100 meters with standard UTP cabling or 500 meters (1640 feet) with fiber cable. The newly released USB 2.0 Extender comprises two separate units: the local extender and the remote extender. The user will supply as much as 100 meters of Cat5 cable or 500 meters of fiber optic cable which is used to connect the modules. It can be extended by up to several hundred meters with fiber optic cable by using the new USB Extender Modules.

The Cat5 KVM Extender units are capable of transmitting data and high-resolution video of up to 1920 x 1440 at 60Hz according to the cable length. They are connected through Cat5 / 6 / 7 UTP cable. The fiber optic KVM Extender units make use of multimode fiber optic cables.

In addition, SmartVM has released another new product known as the Wireless VGA Extender, enabling users to extend video wirelessly to a desktop or notebook with WiFi (News - Alert) access. The wireless video extender can be controlled through a web-based interface and supports streaming video for MPEG 1, 2, and 4. This is the ideal solution for various applications in classrooms, conference areas, and more.

SmartVM has also released a new DVI Extender over single fiber capable of delivering uncompromised digital DVI signal over unlimited distances. The CAT5 DVI Extender is useful for applications in call centers, airports, restaurants, hospitals, digital signage solutions, military, and commercial environments. It can be purchased as a DVI Fiber Optic Extender, DVI Dual Link Fiber Optic Extender, or DVI Fiber Optic Cable in varying lengths.

The HDMI Extender series is the ideal solution for users in need of rich media in high definition. The HDMI Extender maintains clear crisp images with high resolutions that are usually available through an LCD monitor. The HDMI Fiber Optic Extender is effectively immune to electrical and radio interference and offers surge protection and optical isolation.
