iPad Offers More Than Just the Essentials

Most people have some essential programs loaded onto their iPad and many of those include the ever so popular social networking sites like Facebook (News - Alert) and Twitter. iPads even come with iBooks allowing you to make your tablet an e-reader to download and enjoy the latest magazines, books, and PDFs. On top of all of that, most iPad users download from the App Store a couple of weather apps and maybe even an app from their favorite news station. However, there is one thing that iPad users have been forgetting: gaming.

There are more than 26,000 iPad games available from Apple’s (News - Alert) App Store, with something for everyone. The prices are so low (most starting at just 99 cents) you can build a pretty impressive collection of game titles rather quickly.

Lou Kesten, writer for SMH, said you could build an entire collection of games on the iPad for less than it would cost to purchase an Xbox 360. Kesten reviewed some games that he has been enjoying on his iPad recently.

W.E.L.D.E.R., a Highline Game – costing only $3.99 was one of his top choices. “For the record it stands for Word Examination Laboratory for Dynamic Extraction and Reassessment…What W.E.L.D.E.R. really stands for is the iPad’s most addictive word game, a clever combination of “Bejeweled,” and “Boggle,” and “Scrabble,” said Kesten.

Kesten said the object of the game is easy. You have an 8-by-8 grid and you have to slide the letters around, forming words of four or more letters. However, you won’t go far unless you take advantage of score-multiplying gold titles with a limited number of moves given. Kensten said this game would provide you with your new crossword fix.

Kesten also recommends, Infinity Blade II, a Chair Entertainment Game – costing $6.99. This game revolves around an epic sword fight. Its full of non-stop battles in which dodging, parrying, and blocking attacks seem to be the only way to survive.

If you are looking for a game on the cheaper side, than Chocolate Fix, from ThinkFun costing only $2.99 is just for you. This app is a fun Sudoku type of game in which you have to take nine candies, three shapes, each in three colors, and arrange them in a 3-by-3 box.

Moreover, Kensten goes on to recommend, Bag It ($1.99), Blueprint 3D (0.99 cents), Jetpack Joyride (0.99 cents), Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP ($4.99), Where’s My Water (0.99 cents) and Ticket to Ride ($6.99). All of these games range from trying to avoid missals, to a point and click adventure, and even a suspenseful race to build cross-country railroads.

It seems as if all you need these days is an iPad to have a good time, and with these cheap apps users can truly pretend their tablet is a gaming device.
