Oracle (News
- Alert) is managing electronic trading floor data for BNP Paribas. The company has delivered its Oracle Exadata Database Machine to manage electronic trading floor data volume, which is based largely on volatility.
Noting 2011 to be a volatile year for financial markets, Oracle notes that BNP Paribas' data warehouse has to effectively manage billions of messages in real-time and has to process a Terabyte of raw data on a daily basis.
The bank is now using a half-rack Oracle Exadata Database Machine to better manage this data growth and benefit from an improved system performance.
BNP Paribas is able to compress the size of its active data, thanks to the Oracle Hybrid Columnar Compression feature of Oracle Exadata Database Machine. This eventually leads to more efficient use of storage in addition to easier data management.
According to a release, BNP Paribas is using Oracle Exadata Database Machine since July 2010. Since then the bank has been achieving 17x greater throughput without any changes to existing applications.
Oracle recently organized “Oracle OpenWorld 2011 in San Francisco,” and it honored senior business intelligence and data warehouse architect, BNP Paribas CIB, Jim Duffy at this event.
Duffy was given the Data Warehouse Leader of the Year, Europe, Middle East and Africa award, which is one of several categories covered by the Oracle Excellence Awards.
This award is given to individuals who demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and innovative use of Oracle data warehouse technologies to the benefit of their business.
