Patent Awarded to FullArmor for Applying Group Policy to Virtualized Applications

FullArmor Corp. is one of the leading edge cloud services platform providers. The company recently announced that the United States Patent & Trademark Office has awarded it with patent #8,078,713 for applying Group Policy Object (GPO) settings to virtualized applications without affecting the underlying hardware’s policy settings.

In a release, Danny Kim, CTO of FullArmor said that, “Microsoft (News - Alert) Group Policy technology provides a powerful platform for centrally managing user permissions, security settings, and more, but it does not allow policies to be applied to individual virtualized applications without applying them on the underlying hardware device.”

He added, “We have developed a way, using our GPAnywhere product, to ‘inject’ Group Policy Objects into virtualized applications so that they don’t affect the machine’s file system and registry. This technology opens up a whole new world of possibilities for managing virtualized applications not just on Windows but on Linux and UNIX also.”

The patented approach leverages a capability provided in the FullArmor GPAnywhere product. The invention works on the Microsoft Windows operating system as well as other operating systems such as Linux and UNIX. The patented invention receives a GPO from Active Directory and then combines the GPO and logic for using the GPO with a virtualized application and creates a virtualized GPO.

It then injects the virtualized GPO into the virtualized application and the virtualized GPO is delivered to the target device in the same manner that the virtual application is streamed. The virtualized GPO only applies policies to the virtual application’s file and registry system and does not affect the target machine’s file and registry system.

FullArmor Corporation is one of the leading edge cloud services platform providers. Over five million users and 1,500 organizations across the globe use technology developed by FullArmor. The company’s cloud based solutions range from a SaaS (News - Alert) marketplace to traditional IT management.

In other news, FullArmor Corp recently announced myITPortal, a software delivery and asset management cloud service that enables IT service providers and small-medium businesses (SMB) to manage endpoint devices without deploying any infrastructure software or hardware.

myITPortal can be used to remotely manage hardware and software configurations and assets including SaaS (Software as a Service) and traditional on-premise applications, on endpoints. It provides users the flexibility to automatically push applications out to machines or make them available for download through a self-service Enterprise App Store.
