Integrated Surveillance System for Atlanta from Motorola Solutions

Atlanta’s disparate public and private surveillance camera systems will be now integrated into one common operational environment in the Video Integration Center or VIC. A contract for the same has been announced by Motorola Solutions Inc. A comprehensive solution for the city will be provided by a team headed by Motorola’s (News - Alert) Global Services organization. The team also includes ADT Commercial Security, a Tyco International company and CIBER, Inc.

The implementation of the first phase of the project has been completed by Motorola and ADT Commercial Security. The city’s existing cameras have been upgraded from analog to digital. Similarly the existing cameras have been upgraded from leased line to wireless backhaul. The installation of the wireless network in the downtown Atlanta Metro area was managed by ADT Government Services Division. The division also managed the installation pan, tilt and zoom or PTZ cameras.

CIBER’s (News - Alert) advanced Physical Security Information Management or PSIM solution will be integrated by Motorola Global Services for the next phase of the project. Current and planned video camera systems in the city’s downtown and mid-town areas will be combined by CIBERSecure into a single Command and Control display at Atlanta’s E911 VIC. The city’s vision for public-private partnerships will be realized by Motorola. This will be done by architecting and integrating the solution for scalability.

Real-time crime surveillance, smart deployment will be enabled from one command center with this integrated solution. This will benefit the city’s ‘Operation Shield Initiative’. The Atlanta Police Department will be able to make quick informed decisions with the integrated surveillance system. Archived video taken by the surveillance system can be also used by the police for future investigative purposes.

In a release, Bruce Brda, SVP of Global Services, Motorola Solutions said, “The City of Atlanta and Atlanta Police Department had a common goal of combining public and private surveillance systems throughout the city. They needed a solution that integrates the current systems and ensures the future application of live streaming video to provide first responders accurate and real-time information.” Brda added that the company believes that long-term benefit is provided by the project for the safety of Atlanta’s citizens.
