Major Enhancements Announced for Protecode System 4

Major enhancements have been announced by Protecode (News - Alert) to its open source software management suite. Open source and third party software attributes can be adopted and managed by organizations throughout the development cycle with Protecode System 4.

The enhanced version now includes new reporting capabilities and workflow enhancements. Additional development platforms have also been integrated in the latest version. Protecode is an innovative provider of open source adoption and management solutions.

Security vulnerabilities associated with scanned software packages can be now highlighted with Protecode System 4's enhancements to its standard reporting options. Any known security vulnerabilities are reported by Protecode System 4 reports after all external software content is identified. The security vulnerabilities are as reported by common security vulnerability databases like the NVD, CERT, and others.

Encryption properties associated with the identified open source packages in a report can be also identified and highlighted by Protecode System 4. Export Control Classification Numbers or ECCN associated with the external content are highlighted by the reporting enhancements. The effort required for export control compliance in various jurisdictions is reduced as ECCN are as reported by the software suppliers.

Seamless integration with existing tools and workflow processes has been continued by Protecode. The Git version control system has been integrated with the Library Auditor which is a part of Protecode System 4.

Real-time analysis and management of software attributes is therefore enabled. Seamless scalability to multi-site and multi-product organizations and LDAP support are some of Protecode features for enterprise adoption. Other features include Code Administrator enhancements for Package Pre-Approval workflow.

In a release, Melinda Ballou, program director, Application Lifecycle Management Service, IDC (News - Alert) said, “IDC has seen demand for open source burgeoning with a volatile economy and increased maturity on the part of available software and communities. As this occurs, the need for management of open source becomes a key aspect of the Application Lifecycle Management process.”

According to Ballou, organizations can easily leverage open source code with new capabilities that simplify usage and reduce manual effort in determining code composition. These capabilities also help organizations support compliance obligations. Apart from reducing development efforts and development time, organizations are helped by Protecode to minimize risk.

In other news, Protecode recently completed “Ready for IBM (News - Alert) Rational Software” technical validation for its Build Analyzer, a component of Protecode's System 4 complete license management solution.
