DHL Global Same Day Meets FAA Specifications and Wins Commercial Airline Approval

In a bid to offer technological innovations to expand the global capabilities and improve logistics service, DHL, the international express and logistics provider, has launched DHL Smart Sentry, a wireless locator device for high-value cargo that provides real-time tracking data for increased security.

According to a press release, the compact DHL Smart Sentry is the first device of its kind with an FAA compliant certification procedure that can be used safely on approved commercial airlines in the U.S. It provides increased security and transparency for shippers because it includes sensors that monitor key criteria such as temperature, humidity, pressure, shock, location and vibration.

“By implementing solutions for real-time asset tracking that harness the collaborative power of the web, DHL can increase top-line revenues by offering its customers value-added services many others aren't, while saving money by avoiding lost shipments and customer dissatisfaction,” said James Brehm, senior strategist and consultant at Compass (News - Alert) Intelligence

“This innovation, set up by our own innovation department in cooperation with the Agheera GmbH, will provide enhanced visibility along the entire supply chain and offers increased security for the expedited handling of sensitive cargo,” said John Fox, DHL Global Same Day vice president and general manager.

DHL Global Same Day will introduce DHL Smart Sentry as part of its white-glove service that guarantees the fast and secure delivery of high-value cargo items including mission critical packages, temperature-sensitive supplies for medical and pharmaceutical clients as well as specialized parts and deliveries demanding extreme urgency. DHL Same Day serves customers in aerospace, automotive, defense, electronic and semiconductor, entertainment, energy and life sciences in over 220 countries around the world.

In other news, DHL Express recently partnered with Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) (NSN) to enhance the supply chain management model for a Saudi telecommunications provider. Under the three-year agreement, NSN will leverage DHL's extensive footprint and network in Saudi Arabia to establish a Kingdom-wide domestic express distribution of telecommunications and mobile spare parts.
