nPulse Technologies and cPacket Partner to Enhance Datacenter Network Visibility and Real Time Troubleshooting

The packet capture technology specialist nPulse Technologies Inc and an emerging leader in Pervasive Network Intelligence, cPacket (News - Alert) have announced a technological alliance.

With a dramatic surge in network traffic, the data centers need realtime insight into network performance and applications behavior. This calls for new capabilities that will help detect the problem and respond immediately in large data centers. According to the press release, the collaboration is aimed at delivering the most accurate analytics and highest level of applications visibility to Network Operations Centers (NOCs) and Security Operations Centers (SOCs).

Under the initiative, cPacket’s line-rate L2-L7 complete packet inspection filtering and precision time-stamping capabilities will be combined with nPulse’s 20Gbps HammerHead Packet Capture & Replay system. The combined cPacket and nPulse capabilities are expected to enable operators of highly sensitive data centers to react in real time to operational and security issues that threaten service continuity.

“Network traffic is increasing rapidly in both speed and volume, and this demands new capabilities to detect and react immediately to problems in large data centers. By working together with cPacket, we can provide our customers with new levels of real time insight into datacenter applications behavior and performance,”  nPulse CEO Tim Sullivan (News - Alert) explained in a statement.

According to the companies, the combined cPacket and nPulse capabilities are aimed at delivering particular value for accurate forensic analysis and trending, root-cause analysis with fine-grained history, post-event troubleshooting, and applications performance monitoring.

This level of insight is key to maintaining the competitive edge of large, fast, complex networks such as those in financial services, high frequency trading, or high-performance distributed computing applications, the companies further explained.

The collaboration is going to give nPulse’s customers a better grip on their network performance, applications behavior, and security issues, founder and CEO of cPacket Rony Kay maintained in a statement.

The combined solution will leverage cPacket’s unique features like real-time L2-L7 filtering, port aggregation, and accurate time-stamping and enable network managers to deliver cutting edge applications performance monitoring and respond quickly to unwanted business threats, Kay explained.

Earlier this month cPacket Networks announced it had received an SBIR grant of $1 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The goal of the grant is to develop a 100 Gbps (gigabit per second) scalable Network Intrusion (News - Alert) Detection System.

As data rates in and between data centers and government organizations increase, securing higher speed traffic with traditional technologies becomes virtually insurmountable. This potentially exposes government and commercial organizations to security problems and critical service disruptions.
