Tech Job Requests Growing Less Urgent, says Dice

The job recruiting market for IT professionals has become more restrained over the second half of the year, according to a new report from Dice.

Reporting less urgency in the level of job requests, Alice Hill, Dice’s managing director, says that the job count has plateaued over the past five months. Despite the greater sense of restraint, Hill does point to some areas for optimism.

The unemployment rate for IT pros is 4.2 percent, which is up slightly since August but down since the start of the year. The number of resumes being viewed on Dice’s site is at an “all-time high” and the number of jobs available is up 12 percent from last year.

What types of professionals are currently in demand?

The top requested positions on Dice over the third quarter included: Java/J2EE or Java Developer, .NET (News - Alert) Developer, Business Analyst, Sharepoint Developer, and Project Manager. On the other side of the fence, those posting their resumes on the job site were searching for such roles as: Developer, Software Engineer, Network Engineer, Systems Administrator, Business Analyst, and Project Manager.

Looking ahead, Hill sees technology as a priority for the corporate world in 2012, expressing a strong belief that investing in the right technology with help boost business. Still, the current market has created a sense of uncertainty, and as Hill says, “only time will tell if the near-term elevated uncertainty evaporates in the new year.”
