By Ashok BindraThe INQUIRER reported on Thursday that software giant Microsoft has announced that the Bing search engine is now available with Mozilla (News - Alert) Firefox web browser. As per the report, Microsoft revealed this news in a blog post, saying that it had been working hard with apparent rival Mozilla to add the Bing search option to the Firefox, a rival web browser that has been pinching its market share.
Tor Steiner of the Bing team posted on the blog, "You have told us to make it even easier to use Bing in Firefox… Today we're teaming with Mozilla to release Firefox with Bing, a version of the popular Web browser that includes default search settings for Bing,” added Steiner. “Now Firefox users who are Bing enthusiasts can use Firefox with Bing to use the Web the way they want without having to take extra steps to navigate or customize their settings to Bing," continued Steiner.
A blog post on Mozilla blog stated that Mozilla and Bing are pleased to make available Firefox with Bing, a customized version of Firefox that sets Bing as the default search engine in the search box and AwesomeBar and makes Bing.com the default home page. According to Mozilla, existing Firefox users can also make these changes by installing the Bing search for Firefox Add-on.
According to Mozilla, offering Firefox with Bing extends the partnership Mozilla and Microsoft (News
- Alert) announced last year. In October 2010, when streamlined Firefox 4 was launched, Mozilla included the Bing option for the search box. The company said that it integrates the Bing engine for its algorithmic search results.
There are nearly 20 customized versions of Firefox distributed globally by partners including Bing, United Internet, Twitter (News - Alert), Yahoo! and Yandex.
