Black Duck Reaches New Milestones in 3Q 2011

Black Duck Software (News - Alert), a premier provider of automated management solutions and a strong advocate of the adoption and enablement of open source software, announced tremendous all around growth and reached new milestones in the third quarter of 2011.

Tim Yeaton, Black Duck Software president and CEO attributed the growth to customers' successful use of open source, which created a “virtuous cycle of innovation and growth” not only for the organizations but also for their industries over time.

The company stated that the greatest growth was most visible in North America and Asia and enterprise sales grew by more than 35 percent when compared to 2010 quarterly and year-to-date sales.

According to Yeaton, growth in 3Q 2011 was driven by both new marquee customer acquisitions, and expanded relationships with existing customers who are scaling their use and management of open source software with our automated solutions.

This is borne out by figures, which indicated the addition of 69 new customers to Black Duck's total customer count of almost 1,000. In addition to the new customers that represented diverse markets, Black Duck's existing clients also subscribed to additional services and new products.

Black Duck's growth also included several training and educational initiatives launched with the purpose of helping users manage Open Source (News - Alert) Software.

The Black Duck University Training & Certification program was expected to encourage users of the Black duck Suite to innovate, increase development speed and ensure compliance as they learned to manage Open Source.

In addition, the two educational initiatives, the Open Source Delivers blog and the Open Source Resource Center were directed at enhancing their knowledge of open source as a value add. Black Duck also announced support for SPDX Version 1.0, an open source standard

Among the 400 largest software companies in the world, Black Duck figured in 'Software 500 ' for the third consecutive year.
