By Mini SwamyJoomla, an award-winning content management system that is used extensively to power websites of all sizes, is rated as the most popular website software available. It has been recognized by Info-Tech Research, an analyst research firm, and has been designated as a “market pillar” in the Web Content Management market.
Info-Tech Research's latest Vendor Landscape Plus Report for Web Content Management highlighted this fact. It also acknowledged other achievements and milestones that have succeeded in transforming the face of Joomla.
“Info-Tech's latest report provides valuable insight into how Joomla has gone from a small project six years ago to an established CMS by which others are measured today," said Ryan Ozimek, president of Open Source (News - Alert) Matters, in a press release.
Open Source Matters is a nonprofit created to provide organizational, legal and financial support to the Joomla project.
The research report lauded the broad adoption of Joomla by almost 1.6 million websites with the software being downloaded more than 25 million times to date. According to Info-Tech, Joomla maintained the highest Info-Tech Value Score of the vendor group with regard to product offerings.
Another point that appeared to find favor with Info-Tech was that Joomla was considered easy to install and deploy. It was also appreciative of the fact that the Joomla Community was well positioned to provide a large number of template designs and modules that helped build websites quickly and efficiently.
Since its inception in 2005, Joomla has been wholly community owned and operated. It claims that almost 2.7 percent of the web is running on Joomla. The Joomla project is a true collaboration of thousands of open source developers and millions of everyday users. More than 25,000 registered developers work together to build extensions and the core codebase. There are more than 8,000 extensions available for Joomla.
Ozimek said, "It is especially satisfying for our community of thousands of volunteers to be recognized for making Joomla so easy to use and fast to deploy while keeping the costs for developers and web administrators to a minimum."
