Juniper Networks Ensures Protection against Latest Microsoft Vulnerabilities

Networking solutions major Juniper Networks announced that its Intrusion (News - Alert) Detection and Prevention (IDP) security systems and Integrated Security Gateway (ISG) firewall/virtual private network (VPN) systems with IDP offer protection for the recently announced Microsoft (News - Alert) vulnerabilities.

The Microsoft Security Intelligence Report volume 11 (SIRv11) said that less than 1 percent of exploits in the first half of 2011 were against zero-day vulnerabilities. Nearly 99 percent of all attacks distributed malware via familiar techniques, such as social engineering and unpatched vulnerabilities.

In the Microsoft vulnerabilities report, Microsoft focused on the fact that some of the more common threats can be mitigated through good security best practices.

User interaction by employing social-engineering techniques is attributed to nearly half of malware propagation in the first half of 2011.

More than one third of malware is spread via cybercriminal abuse of Win32/Autorun, a feature that starts programs when external media, such as a CD or USB, are inserted into a computer. 90 percent of infections that were attributed to vulnerability exploitation had a security update available from the software vendor for more than a year.

In order to save businesses from leaking information from their data center operations, Juniper Networks launched significant additions to the Juniper Networks vGW Virtual Gateway (News - Alert) solution for customers looking for a comprehensive virtualization security platform, according to Juniper.

The solution will offer virtualization-specific antivirus (AV) protections and monitoring against malware and hackers, while simultaneously ensuring that security does not virtualized workload performance or present a barrier to implementing large-scale virtualized environments.

Recently, Juniper Networks (News - Alert) announced that ASICS Australia, a sports footwear and performance apparel vendor, deployed an integrated security, routing and switching solution running the Junos operating system. This deployment enables ASICS to support continued business growth, improve operational efficiency and comply with ASICS global security requirements.
