Infoblox Enhances DNS Advisor Tool to Assess and Validate IPv6 Implementations

Infoblox (News - Alert), a developer of network infrastructure automation and control solutions, announced IPv6 enhancements to its online DNS Advisor tool.

Designed to assist enterprises for testing the accessibility, configuration, and security of their domains, DNS Advisor tool tests more than 75 facets of an organization’s DNS and IPv6 infrastructure against industry best-practice designs. It also tests the architecture in six key areas including IPv6 compatibility, consistency, configuration, security and compliance.

“Because considerable uncertainty remains regarding the necessary steps required to successfully manage the transition from IPv4 to IPv6, some enterprises will be slow to make the move even as available IPv4 address space diminishes,” said Cricket Liu, an IPv6 and DNS expert, who designed the tool, in a statement.

“Going forward, the additional IPv6 functionality in our DNS Advisor tool will help validate and instill greater confidence in enterprises’ and service providers’ IPv6 installations,” Liu added.

DNS Advisor tool assists in testing IPv6 connectivity, query responsiveness, IPv6 delegation and other compatibility-related commands. It also searches for configuration inconsistencies that may cause longer DNS/IPv6 resolution times and compromise redundancy. The new solution includes checks to ensure domains resolve properly and are reachable and resilient.

Since IPv6 is a new addressing system that impacts a number of network elements, automated IP address management solutions and tools like the Infoblox DNS Advisor will be essential to assess implementations and ensure that end users have access to domains from both IPv4 and IPv6 devices, company officials said.

Recently, Infoblox announced the delivery of a fully integrated plug-in for the VMware vCloud Orchestrator community. Working with VMware vCloud Director, the integrated solution provides automated IP addressing and related management capabilities in real-time as virtual machines are created.
