GigOptix Unveils 40G DQPSK Driver-Modulator Bundled Solution

Semiconductor and optical components supplier, GigOptix has rolled out 40G DQPSK Bundled Solution at the 37th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communications (ECOC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. Raluca Dinu, vice president and general manager of Optics at GigOptix said that they are delighted to offer a truly unique solution to the market.

The 40G solution comprises GX62255, a Dual-Channel 32G Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) Driver and LX8220, the revolutionary DQPSK TFPS MZM and also the GX3220, a linear TIA (News - Alert).

The company officials said that, the GX62255 is built as a compact, surface mount, low power dual channel Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) driver capable of outputting 8Vpp at 32Gb/s.It is designed to be fully compliant with the 100G DP-QPSK and 10G DQPSK MZMs.

Whereas, the latest LX8220 high bandwidth polymer modulator is built for use in 40G metro, long-haul and ultra-long-haul optical transport applications. It is used for DQPSK modulation. The LX8200 is a compact solution targeted for 100 pin transponders and its low Vpi enables low power consumption transponders without compromising on performance.

In case of the GX3220, it is a high performance 28Gb/s linear TIA IC with adjustable bandwidth control that enables its use in receiver modules for fiber optic transmission systems such as 100Gb/s OIF (News - Alert) DP-QPSK and 40G RZ-DQPSK.

Dinu further added that, “Today’s supply chain requires customers to buy a modulator from one vendor, a driver from a second and a TIA potentially from a third vendor. Ensuring that all these components are correctly matched is critical for the optimal performance of the system and can pose a great challenge when designing.”

Dinu said that it was a strategic plan all along was to design and supply all the key components to the transceiver industry and their bundled offering of TIA, driver and modulator, the first of its kind in the industry, is optimized to achieve the best performance, optimized power efficiency, and smallest footprint, while reducing customers’ R&D costs and development cycles.

Dinu concluded saying that their TFPS modulator product line offers a unique approach to enable higher levels of integration in various packaged solutions and they are committed to continue working with their valuable customers to extend their bundled product family.

GigOptix Bundles will address 40G DPSK, 40G RZ-DQPSK as well as Coherent 40G and 100G DP-QPSK applications.
