MStar Reaches NDS Chip Certification

MStar Semiconductor has announced that the company has achieved NDS (News - Alert) certification on its 5th generation of STB chipsets showcasing MStar MSD5C43. The company has also confirmed its Operator and PayTV Strategy on this occasion.

MStar provides FTA (Free-To-Air) STB controller SoC. The company offers not only the controller ICs but also the “total solution” which includes the front-end demodulators, the SoC controller, and the complete and flexible SW portfolios. The company has advanced security ICs which have passed the certification of some tier-one CAS vendors for PayTV (News - Alert) business. MStar also continues to work with worldwide CAS vendors and operators to bring them into its solution, the company has announced.

“We are focused on providing TV Operators on emerging markets with cutting edge, cost effective, secure solutions for their STB deployment with the best time to market and a great network of ODMs.” said Philippe Notton, DTV marketing director, MStar. “Our partnership with NDS since 2007 helps us in providing compelling secure solutions for STB and TV markets with state of the art NDS IP.”

With Asian manufactured set-top boxes (STBs), NDS Certification Program facilitates faster and seamless integration of NDS Open VideoGuard conditional access. By providing a tool kit to enable the manufacturer to integrate the conditional access system prior to selecting a middleware, the first step of the two-stage certification program reduces cost of integration and provides added convenience. Manufacturers who successfully complete stage one will become Powered by NDS Certified Partners, the company has announced.

Recently, Cryptography Research, Inc., a division of Rambus (News - Alert) Inc. and MStar Semiconductor, Inc. announced that MStar will license CRI's (News - Alert) CryptoFirewall security technology for integration into its multimedia system-on-a-chip (SoC) set-top box chips. The advanced security core will help MStar's customers provide robust hardware security in their set-top box solutions.
