Influx of Mobile and Cloud Apps Revolutionizing Network Testing Market: Mu Dynamics CEO

The insatiable demand for business- and consumer-focused applications has changed the landscape dramatically for service providers, network equipment manufacturers and large enterprises that operate their own network.

Handling such bandwidth-hungry network traffic can disrupt services if these organizations aren't well prepared for the continuous onslaught of new applications that are introduced daily.

So how do these companies know that their networks are capable of handling say 100,000 people using a brand new application all at once? They partner with companies like Mu Dynamics to test how the network would respond from a performance, scalability and security perspective.

Sunnyvale, Cali.-based Mu Dynamics CEO, Dave Kresse (News - Alert), recently sat down with TMC CEO Rich Tehrani, to discuss the dynamic nature of the network testing market and a few innovations that his company has been working on.

Kresse says that the traditional model of testing a network by simply seeing how much throughput it can handle is dead and gone.

“The world has changed,” he told Tehrani. “What you see now is an explosion of applications, and low and behold there is a growing understanding that the application matters. When you are doing network testing, you really need to think about the applications as a core part of that testing process.”

This, Kresse says, is where Mu's differentiated approach to network testing becomes a major benefit to clients. Leveraging Mu's testing, validation, security and resilience solutions, customers can quickly and intuitively recreate the types of applications that they expect to see in their network environment.

In minutes, customers can recreate hundreds of thousands of users playing a new gaming app from various devices to see how the network would respond, Kresse says. The company already has thousands of test cases for popular apps like Skype (News - Alert) and Netflix ready to go, enabling vendors to cut down their time to market.

Kresse spent the last few minutes of the interview previewing Mu Dynamic's new cloud-based load and scale testing solution, dubbed Blitz, which is designed specifically with mobile app developers in mind. Click here for more information on this new offering.
