Alkacon Software Releases the Latest Open Source Content Management Software

Alkacon, a provider of open source content management system, announced the Version 8.0.2 of its OpenCms Web site content management system with several additional features and improvements.

OpenCms 8.0.2 supports Apache Tomcat 7 and features a significantly improved Sitemap Configuration, Sitemap Editor and ADE (News - Alert). It also offers an optimized performance regarding SEO and security aspects (XSS), according to Alkacon officials.

The improved user interface and “Advanced Direct Edit” mode allow content managers to create page content by drag and drop.

The sitemap editor allows creating new pages and rearranging the navigation tree by drag and drop. It displays status information such as title and VFS location above the currently edited sitemap and features a “go to the parent sitemap” option in the toolbar.

The improved sitemap configuration options make it much easier to create sophisticated special configurations. For SEO aspects, the Sitemap Editor is provided with a refined naming schema for automatically created resources.

Users can enable drag and drop for any existing JSP by creating reference to the JSP with the new ADE resource type “Dynamic Function”. Refined element permissions for ADE now support Elements dragable by everyone, but editable only with special permissions.

A “Break Up” option added in Group containers removes the group and places all elements individually on currently edited page. This makes it easier to create pages with slightly different configurations.

The XSD path translation, another new feature added in version 8.0.2 OpenCms, automatically checks and rewrites paths in referencing XML content when the XSD file is moved or renamed. The improved server side filtering in OpenCms 8.0.2 helps avoid Cross Site Scripting (XSS).

The version 8.0.2 OpenCms now even supports Apache Tomcat 7 and can be deployed to a wide range of open source environments including Linux, Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, GlassFish, Resin, MySQL, PostgreSQL or commercial components like Windows, Unix, Solaris, IIS, BEA Weblogic, Oracle (News - Alert), MS SQL. It also supports latest browsers including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari.

OpenCms 8.0.2 is fully backward compatible to all prior 7.x versions. The software is now ready and available for download from alkacon.com.

Earlier this year, Alkacon announced the release of new OAMP HtmlCleaner Module for OpenCms content manager to gain full control of the usage of HTML tags and attributes. The HtmlCleaner removes or replaces tags and attributes in HTML documents fully automatic in compliance with the freely configurable preset.
