ScaleBase Offers Transparent Scaling to MySQL Databases

Offering unlimited scalability of MySQL databases, ScaleBase announced the general availability of ScaleBase 1.0. Without the need to change a single line of application code, ScaleBase 1.0 delivers MySQL performance and high availability.

For scaling, ScaleBase utilizes two techniques: read-write splitting and transparent sharding (a technique for massively scaling-out relational database). Without forcing developers to change a single line of code or perform a long data migration process, the software enables MySQL to scale transparently. This new technology is suited for any application in which scalability, performance and speed are critical, including: gaming, e-commerce, SaaS (News - Alert), machine generated data, web 2.0, and more, the company stated in a press release.

“MySQL users are constantly frustrated with the inability to easily scale their databases to meet growing demands,” said Doron Levari, CEO of ScaleBase. “ScaleBase puts an end to these frustrations with unlimited, easy-to-use, transparent scaling. With the increasing deluge of data flooding businesses today, the ability to have flexible systems that can grow organically over time is critical for companies of all sizes.”

The software is currently downloaded and tested by more than 500 users and the ScaleBase Beta program began in January 2011. Illustrating the effectiveness of the technology and how it results in significantly faster application performance, ScaleBase has numerous Beta customer-use cases, the company has claimed.

Recently, the company announced a cloud-based service that provides high availability and scalability for SQL databases. Scalebase eliminates the need for application rewrites or database format changes. A five-step setup process will identify the bottleneck in your application and then direct your database connections through the ScaleBase Database Load Balancer IP Address. The product supports almost all database types—MySQL, Oracle Database, IBM (News - Alert) DB2 or Microsoft SQLServer are all valid formats that stand to gain expansive scalability.
