Proofpoint Positioned by Gartner as Leader in Magic Quadrant for Secure Email Gateways

Proofpoint (News - Alert) Inc. a provider of cloud-based security and compliance solutions for enterprise messaging and collaboration announced that it has been positioned in the Leaders quadrant of the 2011 “Magic Quadrant for Secure Email Gateways” by Gartner (News - Alert), Inc.

In a release Gary Steele, CEO of Proofpoint said, “We believe Proofpoint’s positioning by Gartner in the leaders quadrant is a great confirmation of our continued success in helping large, global enterprises control a wide variety compliance and security risks associated with e-mail.”

Steele added that Proofpoint serves the market by providing solutions optimized for ensuring e-mail security, encryption, data loss prevention and e-mail archiving. The solutions help organizations make e-mail safe, secure, compliant and easier to manage cost effectively.

The companies featured in the leader’s quadrant are those that perform well, have a clear vision of market direction and are actively building competencies to sustain their leadership positions in the market. These companies provide a comprehensive and proficient range of e-mail security functionality and have a clear vision aimed at current and anticipated customer requirements.

Also leaders have a relatively high market share with strong revenue growth, and demonstrate positive customer feedback for anti-spam efficacy and related service and support.

According to Gartner sources, the secure e-mail gateway market is a mature market. It is necessary for buyers to examine advanced functionality, service delivery, vertical integration of related e-mail products and strategic vendor relationships to select the right solution. Policy-based encryption is an increasingly important capability and a significant differentiator of leading products.

“The adoption of DLP drives the adoption of encryption. Companies that search for sensitive or private information in email often find it. However, exchanging this content with third parties is often a business imperative, and blocking it outright is rarely an option. Encryption becomes an enabling tool to send sensitive content safely and in compliance with regulations,” said Gartner analysts.

Officials said that the Proofpoint Enterprise Protection suite encompasses Proofpoint’s best-in-class e-mail security and e-mail management components like advanced connection management; Proofpoint MLX-powered spam detection; signature-based and zero-hour virus protection and e-mail firewall among other capabilities.

In related company news Proofpoint, Inc. announced the appointment of David Knight as executive vice president of product management and marketing in July 2011, according to a TMCnet report.
