- Alert) Solaris 11 Express is now available on Oracle Exadata Database Machines X2-2 and X2-8.
This availability enables customers to leverage Oracle Solaris to run their online transaction processing (OLTP), data warehousing and consolidated workloads on the x86-based Oracle Exadata systems.
Oracle Exadata allows Oracle Solaris customers to rapidly deploy an engineered system to manage critical database applications. This also enables customers to run up to 10x faster with the consistent stability delivered by Oracle Solaris.
"Customers have eagerly awaited Oracle Exadata running Oracle Solaris," said Tim Shetler, vice president of Product Management, Oracle. "Customers running Oracle Solaris environments can take advantage of Oracle Exadata in conjunction with their deep expertise and knowledge of Oracle Solaris systems to deliver extreme data warehousing and OLTP application performance."
"Over the past year we've worked very closely with the Oracle Database and Oracle Exadata teams to enhance Oracle Solaris to deliver unmatched performance and availability for Oracle customers' database workloads," said Markus Flierl, vice president Oracle Solaris Core Engineering. "Coupled with intensive system and patch testing, we offer an Oracle Solaris on Oracle Exadata Database Machine that's highly robust and ready to deploy out-of-the-box."
Elaborating further on this announcement Oracle says that a combination of Oracle Exadata running Oracle Solaris offers customers continuous uptime with Oracle Solaris Predictive Self-Healing to diagnose, isolate, and help to recover from hardware and application faults.
Oracle Exadata runs Oracle Database 11g, Oracle Real Application Clusters and Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software to provide the software, servers, storage and networking for all database requirements.
