MarketUS Leading the Way on Doing Business with the Government

On the face of it, it would seem that doing business with – and reaping the rewards of – the U.S. government would be a no-brainer. How hard can it be? As it turns out, it’s quite a challenge.

That’s where a company like MarketUS (News - Alert) comes in. According to its website, since its founding in 1986, MarketUS has aided companies in obtaining over $50 billion in GSA (General Services Administration) Schedule business. As Founder Michael Price says of his company, “We help small business do big business in government.”

Price sat down at the recent ITEXPO (News - Alert) in Ft. Lauderdale, to discuss his company and its challenges with TMC Senior Editor Peter Bernstein.  Peter asked him how things are going.

“Business is growing exponentially,” Price said. “Every time I do these presentations, the numbers just keep going higher and higher. There’s adoption there, and we’ve got so many new technologies. It’s quite exciting.”

But Bernstein pointed out that doing business with “The Government” is not just one big entity, but a number of smaller entities as well. He then asked Price what were some of the biggest pain points his clients experienced in trying to crack this market.

“The economy is starting to come back as we see, and the government is spending money, and we’re into a lot of retrofit and upgrades in a lot of different industries,” Price noted. “I think the biggest problem is the commitment of saying, ‘We’re going to make the commitment of going after this market and make it successful.’ They [customers] take one or two steps in, and trip or fall, and for whatever reason don’t follow though all the way.”

Price added that having a company like MarketUS on your side helps ease this transition so it becomes a smooth process all the way through. “What we’ve been doing for the past 30 years is try to help small business get into the government and avoid the red tape,” he said.
