MRV Receives TMC 2015 Data Center Excellence Award

TMC (News - Alert) has awarded packet and optical solutions provider MRV Communications a 2015 Data Center Excellence Award winner for its OptiDriver platform.

OptiDriver is designed to speed up cloud connectivity by letting customers build optical networks that can handle multiple types of data using a single hardware platform. It supports speeds of up to 200 gigabytes per second.

The advantage of doing it this way means that data centers can simply add more nodes with a standard hardware platform, scaling up in connectivity the way they can easily scale up with more connectivity from cloud services such as Amazons’ EC2.

While cloud providers try to make their offerings sound as effortless as possible, cloud services need good networks to run behind the scenes, especially in the enterprise. This need has spurred an across-the-board investment in connectivity and technologies such as SDN and NFV to make networks faster and easier to manage.

The 2015 Data Center Excellence Award recognizes the best infrastructure providers who keep the cloud services up and running, even though cabling, cooling and servers aren’t always as exciting as the latest Silicon Valley startup.
