G Data Delivers Bad News about Malware in 2015 and Beyond

G Data has long suggested that the bad guys are winning the war of Mobile Malware. Now the company has released its report for the third quarter of 2015 focusing on this issue. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the report does not paint a pretty picture. G Data has reported that of the more than two-thirds of the people worldwide who use Android’s (News - Alert) operating systems, more than 80 percent are using an outdated version of the OS. That puts users at a serious risk.

These outdated versions of the operating system are even more worrisome to the industry analyst considering the firm already found that there are more than 6,400 new instances of malware targeting Android users every day in the third quarter of 2015.

"In researching new malware hitting Android devices each quarter, our researchers found that a huge amount of people haven't been using the updated version of the operating system," Andy Hayter, security evangelist, for G DATA said in a recent release. "There are a number of reasons for this, but this opens up a huge attack surface of users with holes and vulnerabilities in their operating system, just waiting to be hit. With the continued growth in malware instances that the researchers also found, this is certainly a cause for concern and something consumers should really take seriously."

Perhaps the worst news when it comes to people using Android is that there are more and more phones that are coming preinstalled with malware. This is a relatively new development that is seeing more research, because there just isn’t enough info into how this firmware is getting onto the phones. Finally, it appears the banking industry needs to brace for new rounds of attacks. These attacks will be led by combining Android and Microsoft (News - Alert) exploits in order to manipulate banking transactions on the net.
