SimpleWAN Helps SMEs Combat Security Breaches, Meet Compliance Mandates

Thousands of small businesses are forced to shut down each year as a result of data breaches. Yet these struggling companies don’t make the news, while massive breaches like those at Target (News - Alert), Anthem and CVS make headlines.

According to Erik Knight, CEO at cybersecurity specialist SimpleWAN, even the smallest security measures can protect these companies and deflect malicious activity. Knight recently presented a conference session, “Protect Your Business from the Next Cyber Attack in 2015,” at ITEXPO (News - Alert) Anaheim 2015. TMC’s Allison Boccamazzo got a chance to speak to Knight about how smaller organizations can become proactive about security before they become targets.

“The stats are really bad,” said Knight. “Literally, it’s 60 percent of all businesses that are not Fortune 500 go out of business within the first six months of a data breach.” Hacking and malicious activity, coupled with a growing list of industry and government security mandates like PCI (News - Alert) and HIPAA compliance, are making it increasingly complex for businesses to stay secure.

SimpleWAN seeks to help those companies, acting as an alarm/security system for Internet infrastructure. The company offers a cloud subscription and hardware-based firewall for SMEs and sells the offering via service providers. Their solutions are designed to troubleshoot connectivity issues in real-time in the event of a breach or issue. SimpleWAN also offers a number of add-on services to make it easy and affordable for smaller companies to address security issues while also meeting a variety of compliance mandates.

SimpleWAN recently announced an agreement with master agent ADVODA Communications, which specializes in telecom and networking solutions. The multi-segmented agreement enables ADVODA to represent SimpleWAN to a nationwide community of traditional master agents, spreading information and education on the benefits of the company’s offerings.
