DataCore and Curvature Team on SDS Offering that Integrates with Legacy Storage Solutions

An important new partnership has been forged in the software-defined storage (SDS) space, a market that has been steadily gaining traction. Infrastructure and services provider Curvature has teamed up with SDS specialist DataCore to help large organizations better control their data center storage devices and costs.

The companies are working together on combined solutions that will help companies better invest in the longevity and scalability of their storage solutions. The focus is on using software agility to provide better performance and optimal investments as well as to incorporate commoditized hardware.

The new offerings will help organizations repurpose their existing server and storage solutions by incorporating unified software services from DataCore. Curvature’s hardware and third-party maintenance platform will also be folded into the overall solution, although customers will retain complete control of the design, build and management of their storage platforms. The result will be a custom SDS platform that utilizes, but operates independently from manufacturer-installed software.

"We believe Software-Defined storage will be one of the highest-impact trends changing infrastructure and operations through 2018," said Jeff Zanardi, VP of business development, Curvature. "This will change how companies procure, build and manage their storage infrastructures, which will result in a disruption of the current market, especially among entrenched storage vendors."

Gartner (News - Alert) echoes those sentiments, forecasting that more than 25 percent of Global 2000 enterprises will incorporate an SDS approach to their storage systems by the end of 2017, up from the existing 10 percent utilizing SDS today.

Additional benefits of the SDS philosophy include faster performance and automated management of storage technologies. The new DataCore and Curvature offering also reduces risks tied with upgrading and maintaining new storage equipment by repurposing existing solutions.
