Data Management is the First Step to Achieving Business Agility in the Customer Age

We have entered the age of the enlightened and empowered customer, and companies are being challenged to meet a growing number of demands. Customers are using social media, mobility and other platforms to wield their purchasing power and influence and businesses need to be able to meet them head on to get a handle on managing the customer experience.

This isn’t happening as quickly as it needs to, as evidenced by the number of companies dropping off the Fortune 1000 list on a regular basis. Very simply, business agility is the name of the game in the customer-driven era of engagement, and companies need to understand its importance as well as how to achieve it, in order to stay competitive.

“The power has shifted more and more to the customer from the company in terms of the information they have at their fingertips,” said Suresh Chandrasekaran, senior VP, North America, Denodo (News - Alert) Technologies, Inc. “In the digital age or age of the customer, business agility has become the biggest predictor of long-term success and sustaining competitive advantage.”

According to Forrester (News - Alert) Research, there are four main factors that must be addressed to differentiate organizations throughout the new customer-empowered business cycle. Companies must transform the customer experience to keep up with new and demanding expectations, and they must also embrace the types of contextual interactions that mobile services and applications can enable. Additionally, they must become digital advocates in an increasingly digital marketplace, and they must transform overwhelming amounts of big data into useful insights.

How can they accomplish this? The first step is to get a handle on data through proper data management and virtualization. Data agility drives business agility and yields massive amounts of insight so that businesses may understand their customers in a broader context. CIOs need to learn the importance of retaining a high-level profile on each of their customers to better understand them and meet their needs, and data management and virtualization technologies can do just that.

Craig Le Clair, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester, will be discussing the importance of data management in enabling business agility in the first session of an upcoming webinar series presented by Denodo. “CIOs Must Enable Business Agility via Modern Data Management in the Age of the Customer” will be held at 11 a.m. PT on Thursday, August 13. Le Clair will be covering why high-level executives need competence in both awareness and execution across the 10 dimensions of business agility.

By gaining an understanding of the importance of data management as part of achieving agility through actual business examples, executives will begin to learn how to shape and process data to better serve their customers and prospects in the age of customer empowerment.
