Accellion Releases kiteworks Governance Package

Accellion develops its kiteworks for enterprises so they may securely share files and remain in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. The company's most recent announcement regards some additions to the security and governance capabilities of that software.

The new kiteworks Governance package provides tools for discovery of documents and metadata to legal teams (eDiscovery), integration with data loss prevention (DLP) software, data rights management (DRM), and content retention policies. Vidhya Ranaganathan, the senior vice president of products at Accellion, commented on the risk of data breaches and the need for document security in modern businesses.

“The rise of data breaches, reputational damage, and significant investor loss reinforces the fact that there is much at stake in today's business environment,” Ranaganathan said. “As a result, enterprises need to have better control and insight into how their information is accessed, shared and archived. Our new governance features provide IT departments and corporate directors these essential tools and, in turn, the assurance that their digital assets are properly controlled and retained.”

First, the eDiscovery tool gives legal teams the power to sift through business documents and metadata. Teams can archive and export data as they see fit all while creating logs to track the discovery process.

Companies which use DLP software from popular vendors such as Code Green, Fidelis, RSA, Symantec (News - Alert), and WebSense can integrate kiteworks with those platforms to quarantine sensitive documents. Locking sensitive files can help prevent their being leaked during a data breach.

DRM further prevents leaks of sensitive files by preventing users from downloading content they do not have permission to see. Furthermore, watermarks in the data prevent authorized users from forwarding or printing such documents.

Finally, content retention policies in kiteworks can keep important files on company servers indefinitely. Some documents are not meant to be deleted, so permissions within kiteworks can protect those sorts of files by labeling them with the highest of importance.
