Gartner: Server Shipments Up in Q1 2015

Computers have never been more important to the entire world than they are right now. That is demonstrated by a new report issued by industry analyst Gartner (News - Alert) that says worldwide server shipments grew by more than 13 percent year over year in the first quarter of 2015. Those service shipment numbers were only part of the good news for firms that are actually making these servers. Revenues saw even bigger growth, seeing 17.9 percent growth when talking about the same quarter in 2014.

“The market was driven by particularly strong demand from the hyperscale area, which benefited North America, in particular. This comes at a time when other regions are struggling, due to price pressure driven by the appreciation of the U.S. dollar. The strength in North America was strong enough to offset declines in Latin America and Japan. Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) were nearly flat, with 1 per cent volume growth.” Adrian O’Connell, research director at Gartner, said in a recent statement.

O’Connell added that x86 server shipments increased by 13.2 percent over the first quarter of 2014 and revenue grew by 14.5 percent in the same period. When talking about the companies that benefited the most from the increase in server shipments, Hewlett Packard led the pack. On the flipside, Lenovo might have finished behind HP, but it also saw the biggest increase so far this year. Lenovo (News - Alert) saw a growth of 658.2 percent.

While it would have been hard to equal the success Lenovo saw, all of the top five companies in the server sales market saw significant increases in revenues and numbers shipped except for IBM (News - Alert). Of course, when it came to some other companies, they saw some growth but it was relatively flat or unimpressive. Lenovo was really the only company that saw a massive increase in the servers shipped.
