Commvault Provides Security and Compliance in the File Sync and Share Solution Market

The Internet and affordable computing devices have increased the amount of data we create exponentially. While this has presented many opportunities for analyzing the information to gain valuable insight, it has also introduced considerable challenges on how to store, protect and make the data available with greater efficiency. Add to that the regulatory compliances that mandate organizations to take extraordinary precautions in how they store and disseminate the information, and the challenges become even greater. As a provider of innovative solutions for high-performance data protection and universal availability, Commvault has introduced a new service that brings corporate data management best practices to the file sync and share solution market.

With this new service the company is looking to address the data storage environment being used by enterprises. Companies are integrating mobile, cloud and virtual capabilities in order to address the collaborative and remote working initiatives being adopted around the world. With these solutions in place, organizations now have to make their resources available in many different data centers. This requires sharing and syncing files without jeopardizing the security of the information, while at the same time meeting regulatory compliances.

In order to ensure the information companies have in their possession is safe, they deploy multiple redundancy systems to protect their data. This means storing the information in multiple locations and service providers for safe keeping. According to the company, the use of file sharing services such as OneDrive and Dropbox (News - Alert) are not backed up, and therefore not subject to the stringent guidelines enterprises must adhere by.

Commvault File Sharing stores user data in a secure repository that is accessible through a Web browser or mobile device that meets rigorous regulatory and data governance requirements. This platform delivers a solution that gives IT full control of data for security sensitive files. It achieves this without hindering the usability with an end-to-end solution that delivers features and functionalities that are easy to use.

Another feature within Commvault File Sharing is Edge Drive, which provides universal access for file sharing and collaboration through a virtual folder that acts as a personal cloud for real-time sharing across mobile devices or through a web portal. This feature is able to capture information across different sources while making it easily accessible without sacrificing data protection and governance.

Some of the features Edge Drive delivers include:

  • A cloud-based storage solution that enables users to access files from almost anywhere,
  • A multiple functionality Web console that allows drag and drop files from a computer, view and download files to a computer, add subfolders and move files, share files with other users, and remove files and folders within Edge Drive,
  • Syncing of all files with each locations, so changes to files in Edge folders are reflected in the drive in the Web Console for data consistency across all locations, and
  • Mobile accessibility on Android (News - Alert) or iOS devices.

“Commvault File Sharing and its Edge Drive feature fit in line with the market demand for secure, scalable collaboration platforms that enable end-users to easily share content worldwide between employees and nonemployees while meeting IT's protection, recovery, and compliance requirements,” said Liz Conner, Research Manager, IDC (News - Alert). “As a result, Commvault is helping to bring control back to organizations with secure sharing and collaboration capabilities that add strategic value to its core endpoint data protection solution set.”
