BMC Releases Remedy 9 Service Management Solution with Modernized Design

BMC recently announced the release of the latest version of its service management platform, Remedy 9. A rich set of analytics combined with an appealing user interface are a couple of the many new features of the updated solution.

Houston-based BMC Software (News - Alert), Inc. develops various solutions for IT service management and also automation for IT and server operations, and workload management. The company also tailors IT solutions for the healthcare, retail, telecom, financial, and government sectors.

Remedy 9 is a significant update over previous releases of the software. It would be fair to say that its design has a different mindset altogether. A company video and a whitepaper, Deliver a Better Service Management User Experience, discuss the growing number of millennials entering the job market. By 2025, about 75 percent of the workforce is expected to be made up of this group.

This segment of the population did not get their first exposure to computing using Lotus 1-2-3, dBase, or WordPerfect; they are the first generation to truly embrace mobile devices. BMC made Remedy 9 so that it accommodates the mindset of a new generation of IT staff.

Support for mobile users is a key feature of Remedy 9. Barcode scanning, a touch screen interface, GPS, cameras, push notifications, and predictive text are among the mobile device features.

The user interface plays a major role in the design of the software. Users can set up customized dashboards based on their personal preferences with elements that can be dragged and dropped onto the display area.

Support for ‘consumerized’ self-service is another point of emphasis cited in the whitepaper. The user interface for a self-service app should be simple and easy to use to the point that no one needs to use a help screen to navigate through the process. This point is really a subset of a bigger point of emphasis: the design of apps should be people-centric in a way that helps them be more productive.

BMC appears to be a step ahead of the game when it comes to the release of Remedy 9. It uses a forward-thinking approach that finds new ways to manage IT service instead of how to make the old ways better. This should be a huge advantage for them as millennials dominate the makeup of the workforce.
