Dimension Data, NTT DATA to Create Cloud Migration Services for SAP

Dimension Data (News - Alert), a global provider of information and communication technology products, recently announced that it will soon join its sister company NTT DATA to create a new set of services, which can speed up and lower the costs of migrating applications to the SAP (News - Alert) cloud.

SAP is known for its powerful databases services including SAP HANA which runs entirely in memory space. It will receive a boost from the Dimension Data Managed Cloud Platform (MCP) that will run an instance of SAP for the cloud on the private MCP within a client's data center. A public MCP will also make data processing of pre-production tasks more efficient which can lead to costs savings. In addition, the NTT (News - Alert) tools for data migration and application management will help with the lifecycle of an enterprises applications and data within that cloud.

Steve Nola, the group executive of information-technology-as-a-service for Dimension Data, spoke in the company announcement about how his clients find self-management challenging and that a consumption-based infrastructure can help with service provisioning and cloud management.

“Many of our clients tell us that they’re ready for the next chapter in cloud, which is moving production applications to a consumption-based infrastructure,” Nola said. “Until recently, clients found that self-service provisioning is complete, while self-service management of applications in the cloud remains challenging. That’s why Dimension Data is providing software and hands-on attention that will provide our enterprises with the confidence to move their SAP licenses to the Dimension Data cloud.”

Kaz Nishihata, the executive vice president of Global Business at NTT, further commented that the relationship these companies want to build with their clients is one of trust. Clients need data center services on which they can rely in any situation. Whether they are storing data for later use or actively processing customer inquiries for customer engagement services, databases need to respond instantly. Furthermore, clients want to know they are getting the best deal for their money, so the combination of Dimension Data and NTT tools here also need to make that a reality. By using the hybrid cloud mix of public and private MCPs, clients should get the best of both worlds. They can save money by assuring that their processing tasks are handled as efficiently as possible.

Clients will be able to stick with Dimension Data and NTT through the entire process of moving applications to the cloud, actively managing everyday tasks with those applications, and troubleshooting any issues that may arise. They will have access to high uptimes as well as disaster recovery services should a crisis arise. The set of services announced here is geared toward multinational enterprises that rely heavily on the data they use every day and cannot settle for compromises when it comes to the handling of their company information.
