Gartner Ranks Freescale First in Wired and Wireless Communications Processors Market

Freescale Semiconductor (News - Alert) announced that it has been ranked number one with respect to the wired and wireless communications processors market by Gartner analysts.

In a release Brett Butler, vice president and general manager of Freescale’s Networking Processor (News - Alert) Division said, “Adoption of multicore QorIQ processors among customers targeting wired and wireless communications processors is strong and getting stronger.

Gartner (News - Alert) ranks Freescale as number one with 53 percent of the market in 2010 which separates Freescale from its closest competitor by over 40 percent. The rankings have been published in a study report entitled “Market Share: Semiconductor Applications, Worldwide 2010,” by Gerald Van Hoy et al.

According to this report Freescale is maintaining its strength in communications processors, thereby expanding its market share year over year from 2009 to 2010. The industry’s rapid adoption of Freescale’s multicore QorIQ products has resulted in this tremendous growth.

Butler added, “There is tremendous opportunity ahead for further innovation in communications processors, and Freescale is leading the way with its QorIQ communications platforms.”

A report titled “Market Trends Worldwide: How Mobile CSPs can Control the Mobile Data Explosion” published by Gartner in February 2011 indicates that global growth of IP traffic is resulting in huge demand for rich digital content and is pushing for advances in wired and wireless networking equipment. Also wireless data volumes are also doubling every year globally reveals the report.

Company sources added that Freescale opened up into the communications processor market by delivering the industry’s first multi-protocol microprocessor. The company has successfully delivered over 300 million communications processor units.

These versatile devices find applications in routers, switches, digital line cards, wireless LAN access/aggregation points, unified threat management (UTM) appliances, voice over IP (VoIP) equipment, customer premises equipment, SOHO and enterprise routers, as well as printer, high-end imaging and storage applications, added officials.

Recently Freescale Semiconductor was in the news when it announced the Distinguished Innovative Supplier Award for Trio-Tech International (News - Alert). The award as given at the Freescale Technologies Forum held in San Antonio in June 2011. Rich Beyer, Freescale’s CEO, presented the award to Trio-Tech.
