Hitachi: Get More Control, Flexibility and Security in the Cloud

Seeking to move away from the traditional delivery model and reap the many advantages of the cloud, many organizations are moving either to a private cloud or a combination of clouds- the hybrid cloud. Hitachi Data Systems (News - Alert) Corporation (HDS), poised on the threshold of something big, is set to expand flexibility and control for the cloud.

HDS announced three new offerings: Hitachi Cloud - Compute as a Service, an enhanced Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) and a new Hitachi Cloud Service Provider Program.

The Hitachi Cloud - Compute as a Service is stated to be a new managed private cloud solution that delivers the economics and agility of a public cloud solution, while the enhanced UCP promises to streamline and accelerate the process of building and managing cloud.

Many organizations want the benefits of the public cloud without compromising service levels and security; the Hitachi Cloud - Compute as a Service offers both with its fully managed, secure, on-premises cloud solution and elastic pay-as-you-go pricing. As a result, it accelerates time to market, eliminates complexity, aligns cost to quality of service and business usage and at the same time, maintains the security of an on-premises solution. By making use of Hitachi's partnership with Equinix (News - Alert), this managed solution can be customized to include off-premises capabilities.

The Hitachi Unified Compute Platform has been enhanced to include automation software that enhances IT's ability to build and deploy private and hybrid clouds. "Our upgraded Hitachi Unified Compute Platform, a converged solution, gives users the business agility and reliability they need to successfully transform their business with cloud," said Ravi Chalaka, vice president of solutions marketing, Hitachi Data Systems.

Being natively integrated with Microsoft (News - Alert) System Center 2012 R2 and VMware vCenter Server, the platform allows users control and manage physical and virtual infrastructures through a single plane of glass for Microsoft or VMware environments.

"With UCP, VMware and HDS have a strong track record of working together to provide our joint customers with world-class cloud solutions," said Todd Surdey, vice president, global strategic alliances at VMware.

In addition, HDS is creating a network of CSPs with the Hitachi Cloud Service Provider Program and its 'shared risk, shared reward' model is expected to deliver enterprise-grade cloud technology to partners, enabling them to deliver the highest quality of service to customers.

Thus HDS appears to be well positioned to accelerate cloud deployments for customers, help 'co-market and co-sell partners' cloud services that are 'powered by Hitachi Data Systems,' while reducing cost and risk to customers.
