Networked IP and Hybrid Systems Delivering Value in Video Surveillance

Traditional analog video surveillance systems were famous for providing low-quality images that often frustrated law enforcement officials and others that used the technology for different applications. As the technology in hardware and software continued to improve, the quality of the images captured by these new devices started delivering better results across the board. The introduction of broadband, HD cameras and cloud technology not only improved the quality by multiple factors, but it also made it possible to provide value added services, which could be monetized by surveillance companies.

The new solutions available in the marketplace for video surveillance allow organizations to monitor assets locally or even on the other side of the globe with a wide range of personalized services catering to different industries. This has allowed security contractors to create services as part of their portfolios which can be monetized to generate new source of revenue.

In order to take advantage of these new opportunities, organizations need access to broadband technology so they can deliver video surveillance products with networked IP and hybrid systems with remote video offerings for industrial and critical infrastructure as well as commercial and residential markets.

Services such as remote video monitoring, environmental and supervisory alarm monitoring, lifestyle enhancement applications and voice-down intervention services have evolved from traditional intrusion monitoring solutions, which is delivering new business models and higher profitability.

High end customers in automotive, construction, retail, financial, industrial, critical infrastructure, transportation, logistics, visitor and delivery management now expect a more comprehensive monitoring service to protect their assets 24/7 without fail. This not only provides great opportunities, but new set of challenges as organizations must implement the right third-party solution in order to ensure the different technologies needed to make their system work are integrated seamlessly and provide high degree of reliability..

According to a report by Transparency Market Research, IP-based video surveillance will grow at a CAGR of 24.2 percent from 2013 to 2019. The organization attributes the growth to increasing demand of surveillance cameras that offer better video quality as well as Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS), which is expected to reach $42.81 billion by 2019.

The report goes on to say the largest segment among end user application areas is the transportation market, which encompasses city surveillance, public transits and highways, accounting for 15 percent of the total share market in 2012 and it is expected to grow at CAGR of 21.2 percent during the forecast period. Residential, retail, hospitality, stadiums, and healthcare are also expected to experience considerable growth.
