Setting a New Standard in Remote Network Management

How do you allow for management of the network when your IT doesn’t work on site? Do your branch locations have to wait for the IT tech to show up before a problem can be resolved? If this is the case, chances are they are handicapped until someone can get there. This may stop processes or even render the network at risk.

For a number of organizations, open band management can help in the process as it allows IT to use secure platforms and connections to access servers and devices from across the miles and address the problem right away. Such a process means that operations don’t have to stop for long and the network doesn’t have to be at risk as the process, platform and professional with access is already approved.

This environment is changing, however. Older technology was typically used in remote connections as the 3G and 4G connections were reserved for voice and data. This wasn’t an issue for a while as consumers were moving away from slower connections, freeing up opportunities for IT professionals. As carriers are moving away from copper, however, the cost of staying connected is increasing, forcing many to consider other alternatives.

When 4G LTE (News - Alert) is at play, companies have a better way to stay connected. While these networks are being used by mobile consumers throughout the world, they have much more capacity to meet demands and allow for low-cost, reliable connections across the miles. This is vital for the IT professional in Chicago responsible for network operations for a branch location in Dallas. Going down isn’t an option and jumping on a plane every time attention is needed isn’t an economical approach to the proper management of the network.

IT budgets are getting leaner every day, despite the fact that the enterprise consistently puts more reliance on the network and key operations to keep the business running. As a result, they need access to tools that provide their IT teams with the capability to address all issues across the organization, regardless of location. When centralized is the primary focus for the company – it has to be fully supported in IT as well.

One company setting a standard in remote management is Opengear. Company representatives were recently on-hand at Interop (News - Alert) 2014 in New York to share where Opengear has built a strong reputation and where it plans to take its next step in innovation.
