Mellanox's CloudX Platform Now Supported by Oracle OpenStack

Cloud technology is transforming into the most important technology of the future. As a large number of data centers and future applications rely on cloud, there is a huge demand for efficient cloud platforms. Companies that provide the best interconnect and the latest features will attract the highest number of customers.

One such company, Mellanox Technologies, has advanced its CloudX with support from Oracle (News - Alert) OpenStack for Oracle Linux, in addition to Oracle VM. CloudX makes use of the company's OpenCloud architecture, and uses off-the-shelf building blocks: servers, storage, interconnect and software to create advanced cloud platforms.

Oracle OpenStack enables users to centrally share and manage data center resources. It uses a single pane of management to achieve its purpose. OpenStack has been integrated into Oracle Solaris 11.2 and it helps users in managing compute, network and storage resources in the data center.

The combination of Mellanox (News - Alert) and Oracle cloud technologies is expected to help users process large amounts of data on cloud. It also enables faster data transfers on cloud as it provides highest bandwidth and lowest latency possible. Other features provided include on-demand compute, storage and networking, enhanced cloud performance, and OpenCloud (News - Alert) Architecture: Open Platform / Open Source.

“Utilizing Mellanox’s CloudX platform with Oracle OpenStack for Oracle Linux, cloud operators can reduce their capital and operational expenses through more efficient use of compute and storage resources,” said Kevin Deierling, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “Through the performance and efficiency of CloudX, users benefit from optimal cloud application performance for e-commerce, transaction processing, business analytics, Big Data, and storage-centric workloads.”

Recently, the company announced that National Computational Infrastructure (NCI) selected Mellanox's interconnect to support Australia's national research computing service. With this, NCI can have access to faster inter-node connectivity and offers its members on-demand access to its high-performance cloud.
