With Current Events in Mind, LinkedIn Beefs Up Security Features

In the world of social media, there are a couple of kings, including Facebook and Twitter, and then there are the contenders like LinkedIn (News - Alert). The company has long been one of those that seems to understand it is never going to be able to take on a site like the bigwigs, but it is hoping to carve out that little corner of the social media world for its very own. Business networkers are the name of the game when it comes to LinkedIn and the site’s new security features are geared toward making it that much more attractive to its very specific user-base.

A new security upgrade will allow users to better control the information that is coming through a profile on the professional-networking site. Among the features offered is a new warning when your password has been changed. The obvious idea behind this is if you aren’t the one who wanted to change your password, you will know someone has hacked your account. Even better, the site will give you a look at where the request to reset the password came from.

If you actually do change your password, you’ll be able to see the browser and operating system as well as the IP address of the computer that requested the change. This way, you will know for sure it actually came from your computer, or you will know rather quickly that it didn’t.

Another privacy safeguard that is going to come in quite handy is the ability to see where you are logged into LinkedIn. This will make it that much easier for you to tell if someone is using your account and they shouldn’t be. Obviously, even if you forgot to log out of a computer and you were on the go, you should be able to tell if that computer is the one you were using.
