Juniper Networks Adds New Features to its Next Generation Firewall

Juniper Networks (News - Alert), a security solutions company that provides solutions to companies to help them build the best possible networks, has announced it added new capabilities to its Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) solutions.

Juniper offers next-generation firewall (NGFW) protection with application awareness, intrusion prevention system (IPS), and extensive role-based user control options, plus best-in-class unified threat management (UTM). The newly added features to NGFW will enable users to get added security, control and efficiency while being easier to deploy and manage.

NGFW services are available across the full line of SRX Series Services Gateways, and can perform full packet inspection, applying security policies based on Layer 7 information.

The company has introduced new enhancements to the existing SRX Series Services Gateways that provide next-generation security to help customers protect against threats and control to their network without adding a heavy administrative load.

SRX Series Services Gateways now comes in a broad range of models from all-in-one security and networking appliances to highly scalable, high-performance chassis solutions, which can be centrally managed using Junos Space Security Director. Additional security services can be cost-effectively added to existing SRX Series platforms.

The company has now added a new heuristics engine to its AppID engine that helps in identifying evasive or tunneled applications. It also blocks risky applications such as peer-to-peer applications or adding control over social, video and communications applications such as Skype or BitTorrent (News - Alert).

In addition, the NGFW solution is now open to customization by customers to meet specific security needs. The company now allows AppID and IPS signatures to be written in an open language so that the customers are allowed to write their own signatures that may not be in the standard application database.

Nawaf Bitar, senior vice president and general manager of Security Business Unit, Juniper Networks said, "Juniper Networks is committed to providing enterprises with security technologies that deliver the performance, flexibility and control needed to protect against the ever-evolving threats they face.”

Bitar further said, “the new capabilities in their Next-Generation Firewall products give their customers even more options to manage and secure the enterprise edge with improved control and efficiency."
