CenturyLink Partners with IO to Expand Hosting Footprint in Phoenix

CenturyLink, a leading telecommunications company in the U.S., is expanding the colocation footprint in the Phoenix market using the Intelligent Control technology from IO, a provider of next generation data center infrastructure solutions.

The partnership will help CenturyLink  Technology Solutions (News - Alert), formerly known as Savvis, to enter the Phoenix market as a hosting and colocation provider.

This strategic agreement with IO follows recent CenturyLink announcements regarding investments in its hosting capabilities. In this regard, the company also acquired Tier 3 (News - Alert) and AppFog and data center construction projects in Toronto and Minneapolis.

Through this partnership, CenturyLink plans to add 9 megawatts of capacity available to its clients through the IO technology. Initial deployments will be at IO Phoenix and nearby IO Scottsdale.

The IO Intelligent Control technology platform consists of IO.Anywhere data center modules and the integrated IO.OS data center operating system. IO.OS is claimed to be the first ever data center operating system in the industry. It provides intelligent control by discretely automating the entire energy system supporting enterprise Information Technology.

The IO technology will be complemented by CenturyLink's broad set of colocation, managed services, cloud and network offerings.

According to Jeff Von Deylen, president of CenturyLink Technology Solutions, IO technology enhances the company’s product mix with the latest options for delivering flexible hybrid IT solutions. “IO's energy-efficient data center technology platform can be deployed just-in-time, helping us to preserve capital and enabling our clients to reduce costs and operate more efficiently."

An immediate benefit of this partnership is that clients can access CenturyLink's ClientConnect, an online gateway that allows businesses to locate, connect and share their services with other businesses residing across CenturyLink's global data center  footprint.

CenturyLink maintains a substantial network services business in the Phoenix market. The company employs more than 1,700 employees.

"With its immense global footprint, world-class data center capabilities and Savvis legacy, CenturyLink Technology Solutions is a major force in the industry," said George D. Slessman, IO chief executive officer and product architect, in a statement.

Slessman further stressed that CenturyLink's substantial commitment to IO technology further validates that IO’s Intelligent Control platform can meet the demands of large-scale, global service providers.
