Gogo Selects DragonWave as Microwave Solutions Provider for Backhaul Connectivity

Gogo, a provider of in-flight services, stated that it is going to use DragonWave’s Horizon Quantum (News - Alert) and Horizon Compact+ microwave radios to support its ongoing service expansion efforts. These radios are supposed to deliver the performance parameters for connecting Gogo’s remote tower locations back into a wired network.

Anand Chari (News - Alert), chief technology officer at Gogo, said, “Our requirements are unique in that we needed to find a cost effective, reliable and quick solution to link our customers back into a wired network from our remotely positioned towers. We’ve selected DragonWave (News - Alert), as we’ve had a strong relationship with them over the past few years and have had reliable performance, service and support of the company’s products, which, in turn, has helped us provide a reliable quality of service to our inflight customers.”

According to DragonWave, the Horizon Compact+ is a high capacity packet microwave system designed to deliver big performance in a small package. Its zero footprint capability removes rack congestion and minimizes collocation space and leverages the company’s own bandwidth accelerator technology to provide highest levels of spectral efficiency than any other all-outdoor microwave system.

Delivering from 2 to 4 Gbps per link, the Horizon Quantum is termed as a representative of the next generation in packet microwave technology and sets a new benchmark for performance. It features advanced security with integrated 256-bit AES encryption, comprehensive Ethernet OAM support, advanced QoS support with 8 levels of prioritization, dual-channel capability and more. The solution helps one to avoid the high costs and delays normally associated with fiber deployments and also enables them to enjoy the lowest total-cost-of-ownership.

Peter Allen (News - Alert), president and chief executive officer at DragonWave, added, “We’ve enjoyed helping support the unique vision Gogo is pursuing to provide airline travelers around the world with dependable inflight entertainment services. Probably the best compliment one gets from a customer is repeat business, and we’re committed to help Gogo succeed as they expand their business of connecting passengers to the Internet at 30,000 feet.”
