Trend Micro Signs Agreement With UN ITU For Cyber Security Initiatives

Trend Micro (News - Alert) Incorporated announced the signing of an agreement with United Nations’ International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to support the latter’s Global Cybersecurity Agenda. The partnership was announced at the recently concluded ITU Telecom World 2013 event in Bangkok. Following the development, Trend Micro will share its institutional expertise and research content with ITU, allowing access to the latest information for combating cyber threats to the 93 Member States, 700 private entities and academic institutions associated with ITU, globally.

In a release, Raimund Genes, Chief Technology Officer, Trend Micro, said “This partnership reinforces Trend Micro's mission and commitment to making the world safe for exchanging digital information. We look forward to further contributing to global cyber security and are proud to have earned the trust of ITU to be at the forefront of suppressing dangerous online activity. Our open and ongoing exchange of research, resources and technology will play an important role in helping ITU inform key stakeholders about current and future cyber threats that can impact their respective constituencies.”

As per the agreement, the information shared with ITU includes resources from Trend Micro’s Internet Safety for Kids & Families initiative, which includes access TrendLabs researchers’ global network, threat alert updates and threat reports. Further, Trend Micro and ITU will regularly publish co-branded content to key stakeholders and industry influencers. Trend Micro will leverage ITU’s secure communication portal, ESCAPE to publish real-time alerts, implications and mitigation measures for cyber threats.

Speaking of the partnership with Trend Micro, ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun I. Toure, said “By making the latest research and resources available, Trend Micro is supporting our vision by providing expertise and resources to help people avoid being victimized by criminal and irresponsible online behavior. They are well equipped to provide our leadership base with necessary information to protect citizens.”

ITU is the specialized agency floated by the UN for enhancing international collaboration in the fields of communication and information technology.
